Ok, hot off the press is TR’s nda is down, reports are coming in from all over the blogging sphere. Ranging from it is good, it is bad, to it just plain sucks balls …
Well I’m going to chime in here, but not review the game, that will be done to death by other bloggers I’m sure. What I want to look at is the innovative stuff that this game brings to the mmo market, and are we ready for these changes …. and what you think about these new concepts
First off has to be the UI … gone are the days of hotbars crawling there way over the bottom and sides of the screen, blocking out your view of the action going on. Gone are the days of watching reset timers ….
Yes i love it, thankyou. Its easy to use and quite intuitive and guess what i can actually play the game and watch the action with out watching timers or hotbars blocking my view. It works as intended for TR.
Will it work for other mmo’s, hard to tell, certainly it would be hard for EQ2 or WOW to convert to this style of UI. However new games in development should look at this new idea and either adopt it or modify it … great idea in my book
Next up Combat and cover … its fast, its furious, you have to pay attention and move around. Its very engaging and you have to think on your feet. Using cover to gain advantage etc. If you go in expecting to play the game the same as you do wow or eq then you are going to be in for a shock. Its time to adapt or die …
Personally it took me a little while but once I got the hang of things and approached combat from a different perspective I found I liked it…. In fact going back to other Mmo’s after playing TR, I found there combat dull and boring … I’m sure the future will see more of this style of gaming especially when cross platforming.
Is TR’s combat perfect … no but it is a big step in the right direction and one I think we shall see in future games or variations thereoff.
Missions, yes there are your usual fair of missions and instances. However some of the mission highlights include mulit tasks to be compleated in missions and morale implications to your actions. Yes a great step in the right direction and makes for some engaging game play, however there is still kill this and deliver this item to bob your uncle over in clevage 4.
I think overall, and I just skimmed over some of the most obvious innovations that TR is bringing to the mmo table, and they should be welcomed with open arms. It is a breath of fresh air.
However I get the feeling that alot of mmo players are not going to like the UI changes and the faster paced combat. Are they too entrenched in whack a mole combat and 50 hotbar ui’s … yes, people find change can be intimidating and threatening and TR is one ugly monster in that regard and for some people it is a potential threat to there established and future arm chair game play … I can here the crys of FPS in a mmo … NOOO nooooo no
I say nice job TR on the innovations, lets see how the rest of the mmo world (devs included) take to these ideas, I think you have sown the seeds for something new here … what do you think ????
