So the challenge for today, since its Friday and are brains are heading for weekend mode, I thought I would see if I could not kick the ole grey matter in to creative gear and design a concept of a mmorpg in 30 minutes …. lunch break.
So if you feel the need to get jiggy with creativity (yes it ryhmes) have it, remeber 30 minutes tops.
Here is my idea …
Trying to obtain the biggest market share possible with the biggest appeal is to go with non traditional mmorpg. I would have the setting in a Japanese high school. You would have an avatar that attends said school based on a 24 hour real time cycle.
Graphic style would be much like ergo proxy . Not traditional anime but certainly has roots in it. Would not be over taxing on computer needs.
Sound / music would be popular culture, with an option to purchase through micro transactions an mp3 play that has an in built in link to itunes / zune for updating your avatars mp3 players with the latest tunes. So you can replace game music with your own.
Audience would be teens and up.
Revenue model would be very low cost montly fee subsidized with micro transactions based on avatar upgrades.
Activites: Chat like environment like home, sports against other players, online soccer, hockey, beach volley ball etc, school like activites you can think off… and an over arching storyline related questing, and with every anime type cartoon there would be obvious evil / horror attempting to take over the world, or government conspiracy, or j-horror and you are there to stop it with you school pals. Events pertaining to the story can occur at any time throught out day and night cycle … and will be instanced based grp activites based on a more traditional mmorpg dungeon crawl …
Avatars would be normal on outside but be subject to the usual special abilities, e.g. you attend a secret nija school, you are a powerful pyshic, inherited magical powers via a powerful sword you inheritied etc etc
Anyway theres my 30 minute mmorpg. Have at it and see what you can do …
